Chapter 31 - Not Quite Mutual - part 2

"Is everything okay, Alex?"

"Eh, yeah. I have to be at the therapist soon. Too busy enjoying myself with you and don't want it to end."

"Hey, it's alright. It's important that you go. We can pay up now if you're ready?"

"Sure, I'll go to the toilet and then sort the bill out. Be back in a few."

She stays sitting, finishing off her fizzy pop and waits for Alex. A few minutes later and he is back at the table. He asks her if she would like him to drop her off at home. They pay and leave.

"Thank you for bringing me home. I've had fun. I hope your session goes okay for you, are they going okay?"

"You're welcome. Must do it again. They do me good, I'm having more good days than bad, which is positive. They just help clear my mind."

"See you soon." "Bye Fifi."

He drives off and she walks into the apartment. Once inside, she kicks off her shoes and heads for the sofa. As soon as she is stretched out and finds a comfortable position, she is soon asleep. Everything seems to make her either sleep, eat like a horse or vomit these days and yet she still hasn't got herself to the doctor.

Alex arrives at the appointment early; eager to talk about various things that have been going on his life. He had already talked about his past relationships but Fifi remained to be the one he spoke about often, more than any others. His therapist had previously asked if he thought so much about her and the relationship with her so long ago was because he feels guilty. It was unfinished business that left him speculating and he knew she deserved to have been treat better by him.

"I'd like to bring her to a meeting, so she has an idea of things. Would that be okay?"

"These are your meetings, Alex. You are in control and it might be good for you to have her support. However, it is completely up to you, your decision."

"Okay, I want her in my life and I hope our relationship with her develops into something real strong."

"Can you tell me what she's like?"

"She's beautiful, shy, sensible head on her shoulders, genuine which is a big thing for me. Erm... She seems to get really anxious. For whatever reason, I find she keeps me calm and it helps that she doesn't drink alcohol."

"How do you feel about her not drinking?"

"It makes it less tempting, I guess. It shows me that she doesn't turn to drink or drugs when the tough gets going."

"That's not a reason to be in a relationship with somebody though, is it?"

"Oh no, definitely not."

The rest of the session, Alex spent the time talking different things through and thought today was a good day so far for him. When he gets back home, he ponders what to do next... The last thing he felt like doing was sitting in at home alone. In his heart, he knew where or who he wanted to be but didn't want to spoil things. Instead he reluctantly calls up Howie and they spend the next half an hour chatting. They share stories of what they've been up to since London. Alex fills him in one what's happening with Fifi and his therapy sessions. Howie invites him to come and stay at his with him, Leigh and their young son, James but he declines. He needs to make the most of 'normal life' while the band is having a few weeks off and get used to life without drink or drugs. After watching a few episodes of 'FRIENDS', he plugs in his games console and chooses some games to play. This always passed a bit of time for him even though he's not been a big gamer until recently. It was Nick that got him into playing them and found he actually enjoyed it.

Later that night, Fifi gets a call off Maddie who is still staying with Harry. Maddie wanted to tell her that she is planning on staying longer as she was invited to some family event thingy that Harry is going to.

"Wow sounds like you two are getting serious, are you Mads?"

"Oh we are, I think he's the one. His family are so welcoming. Harry is even more gentle here away from the guys and he really does make me laugh."

"Aww, I'm happy for you. You make sure he keeps treating you right though. Has he got a big family then?"

"Fairly big. His parents are divorced but are remarried, both with kids to their new partners. It's a christening that I'm going to. I think. What have you been up to, all we've talked about is me?!"

Fifi paused,,, trying to get herself excited...

"Nothing much, just been hanging out with Alex."

"Oh my god!? ... And?!?"

"And what?!"

"Tell me everything, what you's been up to and how are things with you both?"

"Not a lot, just ice skating and eating out. We're getting on much better."

"That's good. You's are childhood sweethearts who will be forever together!!"

"Huh, Maddie! I'm not so sure. I..."

"Harry is calling me so I better go honey, you take care. Keep me up to date! Night Fifi."

"Goodnight Mads, have fun."

They hung up and Fifi gets herself ready for bed. Again, she is glad to be in bed.
