Chapter 23 - Trouble At Dawn!!

Several days pass and Fifi decides to phone Alex. She hasn't spoken to him in quite a few days and wants to catch up to see how he is, making sure he's taking care of himself. After hearing the ring tone, she gives up thinking he's probably just in the bathroom or something. On the other hand, Maddie is too busy thinking about Harry. Although she has already met him person, she hasn't seen him since the tour, so she is feeling very nervous about their meet up. She has spoken to him every day since returning home with Fifi and she can't believe how much she's missing him. Maddie has now began to 'feel' things for Harry, things she has never admittedly felt before about any man and isn't sure whether it's just lust so wants to take things slowly. She has agreed to meet him in a weeks time, he is taking her out for a meal and this means that she will need to get a new outfit.
The following morning, Maddie as Fifi go frock shopping. After two hours of shopping, Maddie happily loaded up when they come home. Fifi still continues to phone Alex. The next few days pass in a blurof nerves and curiosity, the evening finally arrives and Maddie is ready to meet Harry. She arrives at their chosen restaurant for around seven, he is already waiting for her; holding a beautiful red rosé which he hands to he and then kissing her hand, he leads her inside where they are greeted to their table. They choose their meake and spends hours talking about themselves, their families and the ice really breake between them. After their meal, they take a long stroll; not thinking, Maddie slips her hand in Harry's and then removes it quickly but he just looks at her, smiling while placing his hand back with hers. This makes Maddie smile bigger than she ever has. Towards the end of the evening there doesn't seem to be any awkwardness in the slightest between them. In fact, it's like they have known each for ever. Harry walks her back to her apartment and outside the front door, they share a kiss before she heads inside feeling like she is on cloud nine and ready to spill to Fifi.
The next afternoon after Fifi has since tried to phone Alex with no hope and feeling worried as to why she just keeps getting his voicemail, decides to try again. Finally, she hears his voice...

"Alex? Are you okay? Been trying to phone you but it keeps going to your voicemail."

"I know."

"What do you mean, you know?"

"I mean as in, I know you've been phoning me."

Frustration starts swelling up inside of her as he's be into vacant and abrupt with her.

"So... Why are you not picking up? I've been worrying like mad."

The next sound she hears is the hanging up tone and she slams the phone down onto her bed. Suddenly, she needs to get some air and picks up her sunglasses as she makes her way to the front door. Startled when she hears Maddie calling out to her from in the kitchen, she walks back into there...

"You alright?" "I just need to get out, Maddie. Life can be so blah sometimes!"

Her eyes start to fill up as she tries hard to stifle away the tears,

"Fifi, what's happened?"

" it's... It's Alex, he's being a real jerk! Been trying to phone him for the past few days and I just found out that he's been avoiding me by not returning my calls... And he's just hung up on me!"

Maddie goes to where Fifi is standing and pulls her into a hug, trying to comfort her friend.

"Men are just a pain! I thought... Things were improving with you two?"

So did I! He just shuts off when I try and talk to him like this this, but hanging up on me, what's that about?"

"I don't know honey, sorry. Maybe just give him time..."

"Anyway, I'm gonna go out for a walk to clear my head. Harry coming down?"

Maddie's face lights up at the mere mention of Harry's name so Fifi doesn't need an answer.

"Okay, have fun. See you later." "Bye, take care Fifi."

Some time later, Fifi had almost walked the whole area of her neighbourhood and she found herself in some unfamiliar territory. She sits down on a bench and glances around; taking in the big, psh houses that surrounded her. There's hardly a soul about apart from all the stars that were now shining down on her. Some voices appear in the distance but she doesn't take ant notice as her phone starts ringing.

"I'm having a sit down, I'm fine. Just need time on my own. Oh no.. Tell me it isn't..."

Squinting her eyes to make it easier to see across the road at a red bricked five story house at the couple, the guy is stood cuddling some woman. He has his hands on her hips but the girl is too busy trying to shake him off from her. Then his hands are in the air moving down to his waist as he watches her storm off.

"Aled... He's... Has he a girlfriend? I have to go. I'll be home when I'm ready, okay. Love you Mads, bye."

She sits there frozen, unable to move. Thoughts run round in her head; what is wrong with her, she asks herself.

"I can see you, y'know. Go away!"

Trying to say something but her mouth goes all dry and she starts to shake with anxiety. He comes closer. She can't tell if he knows it's her or not and whether he thinks she's just some random weirdo watching the scene that had just happened. Debating on if she should stand or stay it ting, she doesn't get chance as he's right in front of her. He glares at her, not sure what to say but obviously, surprised to see her.

"It's you. Why..."

"I went for a walk to clear my head and ended up here, I don't even know where I am. I... I'm lost."

"Oh okay. I thought you were some freak, watching me and..."

"Who was she?"

"Just a chick, I brought home with me but she's... She's gone."

"Sorry, it's not my business. I'm gonna go, somehow find a taxi so I'll see ya Alex."

It took a minute for him to process the situation he was now in before he started calling her back and eventually ran up to catch her. Seeing she isn't making it easy for him as she carries on walking, focusing on the floor in front of her so he manages to step in front with his arms out wide.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing! You obviously don't care."

"What?!"

"You hears me Alex or should I call you AJ, jerk!!"

"Stop, talk to me."

She carries on walking, now holding her tongue and trying not to cry. Reluctantly, he steps away out of her way...

"Fine, if you gonna act all crazy then just go."

All of a sudden, she stood and turns back round to face him. Slowly, she moves her eyes upwards and makes eye contact. He relaxes his hands down by his sides and looking nowhere but at her.

"Come on, we should talk but not here. We'll go over to my house."

So she follows him over to his without saying a word. He gestures her inside and takes her to where the living room is. He disappears to get a blanket to warm her up from being out in the cold night's air leaving her to glance around. Caught her attention is the confession box standing over the near the patio doors, as she begins to wonder why on earth he has this in his living room; reading her thoughts...

"Haha! Great isn't it?! It's real. Anyway, we ought to talk."

"Okay."

" something is upsetting you so let's hear it."

"You, it's you. You're the problem."

"Huh me? What is it?"

"You. Been worrying about you, so I kept trying to phone you. All the time going to voicemail, then I find out you were just ignoring me."

"My problem here... It's you Fifi. One minute, we're getting on great and then you rub it in my face."

Puzzled by what he's meaning and takes a second to gather her thoughts.

"Rubbing what in your face?"

"You and... It doesn't matter."

"Yes, it does so who?"

"Nick!"

Unable to hide her shock and starts to laugh, whilt pulling a face.

"You... You think me and him are together?!"

"I don't know but it looks like it to me."

"We'll it's not. Now I see wht you brought that girl home with you, typical. First sign of not liking something, you get yourself some east girl."

"One thing, where is she now?"

"Not here."

"So... You still wanted your way with her, didn't you?"

"At first yeah, but couldn't in the end. There may have been a time when I would have, but not now. You think I'm some player who likes to use girls?!!"

"No... I err. I don't know. Are you?"

She sits there at the end of the sofa with her head bowed down feeling uncomfortable. Silemce fills the room and then Alex comes to sit himself down next to her twiddling his thumb.

"Fifi, I wish we can stop this fighting. I ain't a player. I'm sorry for ignoring you, I should have just talked to you but that's just typical me, ending up like a prat. Should have learned from rehab, I guess. Can we start again?"

"How many times are we gonna go round in curcles? May as well be on a merry go round!"

They both start to laugh.

"So you're not seeing her?"

"I, not, no. So you're not seeing Nick, then?"

"Nope. We're lke really close and he's a great friend to me. He's wonderful."
