"She's outside with another friend. I'm gonna give you some pain relief through this IV. Now you jus rest here. Try and calm your breathing, I'll be back in a minute."
The nurse disappears leaving Fifi lying on the bed, alone and anxious. She notices the heart monito connected to her and a blood pressure wrapped round her arm. Confused and a little dazed from the pain relief, she closes her eyes.
The same doctor who spoke to Maddie earlier comes to check on Fifi. He scribbles down some notes and quietly mutters to the nurse. Fifi hears them and tries to shuffle herself to be more comfortable attracting the medics attention. The doctor pulls a stool over next to Fifi and sits himself down on it.
"Hello, Felicity. I have been looking after you since you were brought in, how are you feeling?"
"In pain and confused. What's up with me?"
"I have been monitoring you but as you were unconscious, we couldn't really know what was really going on. You have been bleeding though. Oh nurse, please can you check under there to see if its stopped?"
" okay, Felicity, I'm just looking under the covers. She is still bleeding, it definitely looks like it's vaginal."
"Right okay, thanks nurse. Okay, Felicity, I need to ask you something..."
"Okay...?"
"Could you be pregnant?"
"What, really?"
"Have you had any symptoms? Like sickness, swelling, tenderness and unusual behaviour?"
"Hmm... Yes... I have..."
"Nurse, we need to do a test, please can you do one and I'll get an ultrasound scan arranged."
Fifi sinks her head even further back into the pillow and thoughts began whirling round in her mind. What if she is pregnant? Could this be the reason for all the times she's not been well? How far would she be if she is? She's always wanted to be a mommy and have her own family, but not so much at the moment. The nurse comes back and gets on with doing the text, explaining everything she is doing so Fifi knows what is going on. The test didn't take long and the nurse is just waiting for it to confirm.
"Okay, Felicity. This is ready now for me to see the result so I'll just look at it first, it's showing... You are pregnant. Are you okay honey?"
"Oh my god, I'm really pregnant?!?"
"Yes you are. I need to let the doctor know, okay..I will be right back. It'll give you a few minutes for the news to sink in. Congratulations!"
She rushes off and Fifi lies there shocked. She really is pregnant. It dawns on her that its not as straight forward as things have only just started to really improve with her and Alex. This would destroy their friendship. A minute later, the machine starts beating rapidly, the doctor and nurse rush back to check on her. They check her vitals and attach another drop to cool her temperature down. They manage to bring her back round.
"Felicity, you have just fainted but everything is under control and we need you to stay calm. The ultrasound scan machine is on it's way with the radiographer. We can see the news is a shock for you and would you like us to fetch your friends in?"
"Please don't tell them I'm pregnant! I want, I need to tell them myself. I'm so scared and I don't know what to do..."
"We'll do everything we can to make sure all is okay and that you won't faint again. The ultrasound will be able to tell us more and we can decide on the next step afterwards."
The nurse had been out and brought in Maddie with her. Maddie runs over to Fifi and gives her a big hug. The doctor to had disappeared, leaving the nurse to monitor Fifi.
"Hey, you got me so worried!"
"I'm sorry."
"It's fine. Just glad you're okay. What's happening?"
"They're doing tests."
"Felicity, try to rest honey."
"Okay nurse."
Maddie sits there holding her friend's hand and let's her rest like she has been instructed. She watches the nurse sorting through some paper work and hopes in her heart that Fifi will be well again.
Half an hour or so passes by and the doctor has come back. He asks Maddie to please excuse from te room while he undertook some more tests so she wanders back to where Nick is sitting. Nick sees her walking over and greets her as she gets closet.
"She looks so tired and scared. They're just doing some tests and that's why I'm here. You okay, Nick?"
Yeah, I'm fine cheers Maddie. Think we should try AJ again, fingers crossed he'll have it switched on now."
"Yeah, I'll nip outside and try. Will you stay here in case they need us?"
"Course I will. I will be right here when you get back. Good luck."
She then walks outside dialling Alex's number and it finally rings.
"Alex! Finally! Did you get my voicemails? Right okay. Where are you? Right, you need to get yourself to the emergency room at the hospital. It's Fifi. She is okay as can be but I'll tell you when you get here. Okay, please drive safely. Yes, she's able to talk. See you soon, bye."
Maddie takes a gulp of air and stretched her makes before making her way back inside. She then goes to sit with Nick who's lost in his own thoughts.
