The next day, they sorted out their washing and tidied everything away from the tour. They watched a few episodes of a top telly series. Some of their friends called to arrang a meet uo for a good catch up session for the following week sometime. Maddie goes out to do the grocery shopping and leaves Fifi behind at the apartment.
She heads for the littke grocery store to get the basics. Fifi had helped her write out a list and written an alternative list as well. The store is just a mid range priced place and has a littke cafe boutique adjoining an entertainment centre. Maddie always finds it relaxing coming her and today, she decides to hunt down some music and DVDs for her and Fifi. Normally, she would be looking at the dance music section as that's her favourite music genre but this time, it was the Backstreet Boys she was looking for. Then she has a drink in the cafe; in the sunshine. It was an excuse for her to top up her tan. She wonders if Fifi is doing the same at home, sitting in the sun. Once she's finished her drink, she goes to do her grocery shopping.
Meanwhile.. Fifi is in fact outside in the little back garden; sunbathing. She too wants to get rid of her pasty skin, but when she looked in the mirror earlier, she wondered why her face is looking so puffy. Not only puffy but even more pale than normal. Thinking to herself that it must be the bug thing she thinks she has had, over the last few days. Making her jump, her phone rings and seeing his name; she pauses before answering it...
"Hey, how you doing?"
"I'm good thank you, how are you feeling now Fifi?"
"Pretty much better, almost anyway. Thanks for asking. How's it going?"
"Taking each day as it comes but it's a good day so far so that's alright. Listen up, I am happy that we can chat again. Have you seen any of our old friends, apart from Maddie?"
"Some of the girls and the odd few guys but that's it. Everybody's busy with their own things these days, shame really but at least the girs who I was friends with in our group are still close friends. What about you?"
"Just one or two guys but that's it. Hey, who was that bossy girl? I seem to remember she alwas used to answer back to the teachers and it was her way or no way."
She pauses trying to think who and then it clicks...
"Do you mean Jasmine?"
"A redhead?"
"Yes, she's a redhead. Yup, she's a good friend. She's bolshy still though, ha ha!!"
"Whoa, she never held back, did se?"
"Nope, she hasn't changed."
"Funny. Anyhow Fifi, I must get going. See you soon, maybe?"
" yeah, why not?! See you Alex!!"
"See ya babe!"
Two hours later, Maddie comes home with bags of shopping and placed them in the kitchen. Through the kitchen window, she sees Fifi lying on the sunlounger so goes out to let her know that she's home.
"Guess what I brought home?"
"I don't know..."
"I'll go and get it along with the CD player, be back in a minute."
So off she goes back inside and Fifi notices she's gone a little red from the sun. Maddie comes out with a handful of CDs in one hand and the CD player in the other with a big, cheesy grin on her face; looking mighty proud. Fifi tries to catch a glimpse of the CDs but no luck. A moment later, she looks over Maddie as she hears the music starting to play. It's a voice she knows all too well...Nick. 'Looking for beauty in a certain. Finding the strength inside a grey. Maybe I'm heading for a breakdown. And maybe that's okay. Could be I'm hanging on for dear life. Maybe I need to get a grip. Cause you're the only one. That makes me feel like this. So...' Maddie just smiles at her, no needing to say anything. 'Safe me, I'm falling again. Keep me from breakin' in a million pieces. In the end no matter what I do. There's nowhere, nowhere to go.'
"Backstreet Boys?? What album is that from, Mads?"
"Unbreakable. This was one of the two albums that Kevin wasn't a part of, when he left for a while."
"He left? I didn't know this."
"Uh. He needed to do his own thing for a while, apparently."
"Oh right. Anyway, lets hear the rest."
In silence, and both girls lying on their sunlounger s listening to the guys. Before lying down properly, Maddie moves her her lounger next to Fifi's and she gets her to take a picture in her phone. Then she shows Fifi how to use instagram and lets her choose which one to upload... Watching her scroll through them all, she points one out. One of the two of them when they were out the first time with the guys before the tour started. Maddie then looks through different accounts and sees both Alex's and Nick's, they both posted pics of the whole group together including her and Fifi.
"It's not that hard really, is it?!"
"Nope. Just get used to it and you'll be fine. Who you following? I'm gonna follow the guys and their WAGs. There's some of our girls on it too."
"I want to change my profils pic, but don't have any good ones of me?"
"Ask Nick,didnt you say you two took some when he took you out on his boat that day?"
Closing the app, she searches for Nicks number and then dials it... Waiting to hear him answer thinking he's but, is surprised when he does pick up.
"Hello...?"
"Hey Nick! It's Fifi."
"Oh hey! You okay baby?"
"Good thanks, you? I'm just getting used to my instagram and wanting to upload a pic for my profile pic, you took some that day you took me on your boat, didnt you?"
"Hang on, I'll have a look..."
He disappears for a moment while he looks through his phone album and then comes back to the phone...
"I can send you some if you want? Oh and I'm fine thanks, just hanging out. What you up to?"
"Sunbathing with Maddie. It's good to not move, ya know."
"Ha, I get bored sitting round too long! Anyhow I'll let ya carry on sorting your pictures out, I'll look out for them on there."
"Oh, thanks Carter!!"
"What?!"
"Nick Carter checking out on my pics, what will your fans think?!! Huh?!!"
Sensing she's only teasing him and laughs at her...
"Crazy no doubt! They're as crazy as Carter!!"
"No doubt 'bout that!!"
They giggled and their conversation comes to an end, Fifi laid still, quietly waiting. Maddie had disappeared to fetch some drinks. Once she brings the drinks outside, they stay there until it starts getting dark.
The rest of the evening, they laze around the apartment. Watching the telly, eating, chatting and relaxing. Maddie speaks to Harry on the phone and decides to meet up with him in a few days time, once he catches up with everyone where he lives. Things are starting to get a littke serious between them and she couldn't wait to see him even though it's only been a few days since she saw him. She hopes to see her best friend happy in a relationship and find true love that she deserves, in allthe years she has known her, Fifi has always struggled with meeting guys and fully letting her hair down.
