Chapter 22 - Fond Memories

Fifi and Maddie decide to try out the organic grocery store now they've earned enough to splash out. They've heard enough good comments being said about it so they had to see to themselves. Once the shopping trolley is full, they head for a check out counter and Fifi hears her phone ringing...

"Hello...?"

"Hey, it's Nick. How are you babe?"

"Oh hey, nice surprise to hear from you. Good thanks, you?"

"Great but bored! What you up to?"

"Just grocery shopping with Maddie, you?"

"Just got back from the beach, having fun?"

"It's alright, ha ha! Not as fun as hanging you with you guys."

"Aww...oh, hey good choice for your profile picture by the way!"

On the next check out counter is Alex but neither of the girls have seen him and he ends up hearing Fifi's phone conversation, he could tell it was a guy but who, he wonders. Still none the wiser, Fifi is still chattering away to Nick.

"I really did enjoy spending the day with you that day you took me on your boat to the Keys. The photos prove what a great day it was had by both of us, don't you think?"

By this time, Alex pulls his hat down and places his glasses back on properly, he dips his head and walks hurriedly past the girls. He soon sped off in his car out of the car park and Fifi finally came off the phone as her and Maddie wander outside to get a taxi. They load up the taxi and make their way back home. When the taxi pulls up outside, Fifi hands over her wad of money to pay the driver while Maddie grabs the shopping out of the car boot onto their front step. Together they put it all away and then while Maddie's busy answering her phone, Fifi decides to check her emails.

"Ooh... What are you up to by the look on your face? Something you shouldn't be?!"

"Just... Checking emails. There's one to both of us by the record company asking if we wanna go to the UK with the guys, what do you think?"

"Really, we've... Well especially you have always wanted to go there so we should!! Come on tell them we'll go."

"Okay, guess that's final. Geez it's only a few weeks away... Can't wait!!"

With that decision made fast, she replied back with a definite confirmation. She looks to see if she needs to make flight arrangements but finds they'll do that for them so all they need to do is to pack and sort out taxi to take them to the airport. Shortly after finishing their dinner, Maddie goes to have a long soak in the bath leaving Fifi sitting in silence on the sofa. She walks through to her bedroom, plonks herself on the floor to look for her old albums and eventually, after a heap of albums next to her, finds the one. She carries it through to the living room and puts on some music, selecting Pink Floyd to play. This album is one from when she was at school before Alex left to join his group. The first photo was of her and Maddie, it was their day at high school and they were looking might proud to be starting this big new school.she giggles. They both wore their hair in long pigtails. Her heart fluttered when she turned the page and there facing her with Alex, must have been not long after they first met. She can't help but smile at how cute they looked together, he had the biggest grin on his face. On the next page was of her, Alex, Maddie and Jas. As usual, Fifi and Maddie were side by side, Alex was stood next to her with Jas hogging up the camera but she can see Alex looking sideways at towards herself, was this when he first started fancying her, she wonders. It answered her question when she flipped it over to see another picture of her and Alex, they were holding hands sitting in the school playground all innocently. They looked a few years by this time. She feels a tear falling down he cheek and chuckles at the fond memories, feeling glad that he is back in her life. As she continues through the album, she starts to feel inspired to do some sketching and goes to get her sketchbook. In the middle of sketching, Maddie comes in and says goodnight then taking herself off to bed leaving Fifi drawing. Even more inspired, she jots a few lines down accompanying the sketch...

'I knew you were special even if we were just kids
You made me stronger when we were together
That smile really made my heart melt like crazy
No one got me just the way that you dud, never
Then like a ghost within seconds, you were gone
A dark foggy cloud hung over me day after day
Quicker than a click of the finger you were here
It was like someone had pushed me out in the road
Truth was i never fully closed the bin lid on you
I see the smile again causing an eruption inside
Will I ever get to taste your warm tender kiss
The fairy takes really exist guiding you closer to me
For now I'll keep hoping longing for a twist in fate'

Some hours later, Maddie wakes up to help herself to a glass of water and sots the living room lamp is still shining brightly, so after filling her glass, she wanders through. She sees Fifi curled up on the sofa with her sketchbook and pencil still in her hands, carefully not wanting to wake her up; she tries to gently move them over to the table. As she picks the book up, she notices the sketch and ends up reading what Fifi has scribbled. The word 'wow' crosses her mind and is pleasantly surprised to discover how her friend really feels about Alex. With the blanket that she fetched from the cupboard, she tucks her in and switching off the lamp on her way back to bed.
