Part 1 to chapter 33 - Alex's Therapy Session

Fifi is sitting on the doorstep of her apartment waiting for Alex to arrive so they can drive to his therapy session together. She decided to wear a floral top with pale blue jeggings as she wanted to appear presentable whilst remaining comfortable. To be truthful, she didn't know what to expect but fought herself from having any expectations. Finally, his car pulls up.

"Hey, sorry for being late! Ready to go?"

She nods in agreement and climbs into the passenger seat. On the journey, she keeps quiet as she often did when nervous. He noticed this and places his hand on top of hers which is laid beside her thigh.

"You okay sweetheart?" "I will be. I'm just a littl nervous."

"I was at first. To be honest, I didn't think I was someone who needed it but then again, I didn't think I had a problem."

"What if I end up clamming up?"

"I'll be there next to you, if you get nervous, let me know."

"Thank you. The same goes to you too. Are we nearly there yet?"

"Not far now. Oh and thanks Fifi, baby. It means so much you coming with me today. I've not invited anyone along since I went to rehab and both me and Stuart, said it's a great step forward for me."

"Aw, that's good that you both said that, especially Stuart." "Yeah. We are... Here."

They pull up in a free car space round the side of the newly built building to avoid any paparazzi and once out of the car, they quickly run inside. Alex goes straight to the drinks machine and buys them both a drink.

"Oh thanks, think I will need this when we're in there."

A minute later, a short, stump fellow meets them. He introduces himself to Fifi who returns a handshake. She immediately feels more relaxed by his calming aura. He takes her and Alex into his room which has a sofa in one corner and three armchairs in the other corner with different bits of furniture scattered around the room. Stuart directs them to the armchairs as he follows behind them to sit down in his chair.

"Today, maybe we can chat about ourselves but let's see how you are Alex, how are you?"

"I've been having more good days than bad lately. I think it helps you to be more determined to have more good days. So... I feel great today."

"What have you been doing since we last met?"

"Spending it with Fifi, mostly."

As she heads her name being mentioned, she looks over at Alex who is sitting there with his legs crossed over. One arm laid flat on the arm rest whilst the other is at the side of his jaw and he is smiling.

"How do you feel about her being here with us today?"

"Oh it's great! I said to her that it means a lot to me. I just hope I don't scare her away though."

"Why do you think you will scare Fifi away?"

"That she'll think I'm just some screw up and stuff."

"If I thought that Alex, I wouldn't be here now. I care about you. If anything, if you knew what goes on in my head sometimes, it'd be me that would scare you off."

"Why do you say that Fifi?"

"I have severe anxiety. I don't trust easily although I've learned to trust Alex and my very close friends but that's all. I went on a plane for the first time ever just a few months back."

Stuart listening intently as she talks and waits to hear Alex's thoughts. They both sat there lost in their own thoughts.

"I'm proud that you got yourself on a plane, Fifi." "I am. It's getting easier."

"Alex, have you been in any situations where alcohol or substance abuse been involved recently, since our last meeting? And is it okay for us to talk with Fifi here?"

"Yes, it is fine. She is in my life again and Fifi doesn't drink."

"Is that by choice or health reasons, Fifi?"

"By choice. I hate the feeling of being drunk and it worries me."

"Why does it worry you?"

"The first is what it's done to Alex and it caused our mutual friend to be diagnosed with a heart condition. I don't get why someone can drink to the point of vomiting for the sheer fun of it. I understand some people, like Alex drink or drank to hide their lack of confidence, or depression or whatever is going on in their lives."

"How do you know about Nick?!"

Fifi looked at Alex as if to say 'well I do work with you all so of course I'm going to know'.

"He talked to me about it."

"Oh okay."

"Okay guys, Alex how is your communication with those closest to you?"

"I'd say it's getting there, it kinda breaks up any stress that I may get. It does help."

"How is the communication between you two?"

Alex looks at Fifi who sits waiting for him to speak. He smiles at her.
